Franz Marc (1880–1916) is one of the most important Expressionist painters in Germany. He was a co-founder of the Blue Rider art group. His Expressionist works captivate viewers with their vibrant colors and deeply moving themes. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen now aims to offer visitors a comprehensive insight into the work of this exceptionally talented artist through an exhibition at K20.
The exhibition, subtitled “The Search for a Better World,” features over 120 paintings and works on paper, including some of his most significant pieces. It places the works in their historical context. At Grabbeplatz in Düsseldorf, visitors can learn more about Marc’s life, his color theories, and his artistic principles. In particular, his dynamic depictions of animals are given special prominence here, as they symbolize harmony and a deep connection to nature, embodying primal authenticity and purity.
