With two thirds of the city covered in green, Wuppertal is the greenest city of Germany! It’s a fun city that offers great hiking opportunities, or, when you feel like resting your feet for a while, enjoy the coolest public transportation in the world! The Schwebebahn is a suspension railway, so taking a ride makes you feel like you are hovering above the city. It’s a great experience and a fun way to see the city!

The story goes that in the 1950’s, a circus director wanted to promote his circus and took a ride in the Schwebebahn with one of his baby elephants. During the ride, the baby elephant got scared and jumped straight into the river below the train. Since then, the little elephant is known as “Tuffi”, or “Little diver”. The place where he jumped out of the train is marked and can be seen from the train. For those concerned about Tuffi’s well-being: he was rescued out of the river and returned to the circus safe and sound! ;-)
