Home of the Sounds
Visitors experience the sound of the city in this urban living room.
The Salon des Amateurs at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf is home to the sounds. Diversity is what makes up the cultural programme of the Salon. Motto of the afternoon: Café. Voices mix with the rattling of cups while you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. In the evenings: club, cinema, reading room. Individual electric music invites you to dance, catching soundtracks lets cineastes’ hearts beat faster and authors works make everyone listen devotionally. This is the place where the art and culture scenes get together. Just like in a living room for anyone. The avant-garde music und cultural programme is renowned beyond Düsseldorf. The Salon was founded by art students in 2004 and is one of the central, musical flagships of the city. The pianist Hauschka has his roots here and even named his 2011 album “Salon Des Amateurs”.
Strolling through Düsseldorf
One could say that subculture meets high culture in Düsseldorf. There is no other city that has as many galleries and art museums so closely clustered. The best example for this phenomenon is a building that contains the “Salon des Amateurs” as well as the “Kunsthalle Düsseldorf”. The “Kunstbunker” is popular among art experts, focusing on changing exhibitions. Worlds collide not only in terms of art, however, as Düsseldorf brings together many opposites. Luxury shopping miles of world renown or creative scene quarters, star restaurants or street food, busy inner cities or grazing sheep along the river Rhine can all be found easily living side by side in harmony.
